Authorized submitters may transfer evidence from a felony violation to the laboratory for forensic services.
The evidence team maintains the chain of custody for critical items of evidence.
The Wisconsin State Crime Laboratories (WSCL) are available to accept evidence in criminal cases from Monday through Friday, 7:45 am to 3:30 pm, except on state holidays. Please note that the WSCL does not accept evidence for civil cases.
Criminal defense cases need a court order before submission to the laboratory. There is no fee for forensic service requests for felony defense cases. All results are confidential to the defense case. Results will not be shared with law enforcement if they assist with the transfer of evidence in defense cases.
The evidence team may decline any evidence that does not follow the submission guidelines.
Questions and/or consultations before the submission of evidence are always available. Additionally, training on the submission guidelines and proper evidence packaging is available.
