2021 Wisconsin Act 109 Digital Mapping of School Buildings 2022
Applications are now being accepted for the 2021 Wisconsin Act 109 Digital Mapping of School Buildings-2022. The project period for this funding opportunity is July 1st, 2022 – June 30th, 2028.
Applications will only be accepted in
WebGrants.
Some background on this grant opportunity: the passage of 2021 Wisconsin Act 109 amends 2017 Wisconsin Act 143, now allowing school boards, governing bodies of private schools, charter schools, and tribal schools to submit digital maps of their school buildings, (in lieu of blueprints) to the Office of School Safety (OSS) to comply with 2017 Wisconsin Act 143 and
2021 Wisconsin Act 109 (PDF).
With this update, the Wisconsin DOJ - OSS is seeking applications from school boards, governing bodies of private schools, charter schools and tribal schools interested in obtaining reimbursed funds for digital mapping data.
Applicants do not have to be compliant with requirements of 2017 Wisconsin Act 143 to apply. All applicants must be 2017 Wisconsin Act 143 and 2021 Wisconsin Act 109 compliant before the conclusion of the grant period.

Speak Up, Speak Out Student Instructional Materials Grant
The SUSO Student Instructional Materials grant has supported schools in implementing SUSO. Funding provided schools with access to instructional materials related to SUSO and assisted schools in introducing and encouraging use of the tipline. Though the grant has closed, schools are still able to purchase materials through the SUSO Store.
SSI Grants - Critical Incident Stabilization Funds
This grant program provides funding to schools and school districts that need additional resources to respond to or recover from a critical incident. Qualifying incidents may vary but include acts of violence or criminal conduct that result in significant trauma to a school community. Financial assistance may be used to support emergency response, mental health counseling, infrastructure repair or improvement, post-crisis consulting, training reimbursement, and other support services.
Schools and districts must meet specific eligibility criteria before applying. To be eligible, an incident resulting from human action must have occurred. To determine whether an event is recognized as a ‘critical incident’ within the meaning of this grant opportunity, the following factors are considered - none of which are dispositive:
- Whether the event was an act or attempted act of violence or other serious criminal conduct.
- Whether the event caused or was reasonably capable of causing death, great bodily harm, or significant psychological trauma.
- Whether the event was an unusual or atypical event that schools do not ordinarily encounter.
- Whether the event had a nexus to the school, such as occurring on school grounds or in connection with a school event or is something that could affect the psychological safety or well-being of the student body and/or staff.
Grants are awarded through a process that differs from other school safety funding opportunities. Each request is evaluated and scored by a panel of representatives from the OSS Advisory Committee, whose recommendations guide OSS decision making.
Applicants are not required to have been awarded previous Wisconsin DOJ school safety grants to apply, and schools designated as ‘high risk grantees’ are still allowed to apply for funding.
